Cookie Policy

1) What cookies are

Cookies are small text files that websites place on the user's device (browser) to be sent back on subsequent visits. Similar technologies (pixels, local storage, fingerprinting) produce comparable effects and, where not strictly necessary, are subject to the same consent regime. This notice is provided pursuant to the Italian Data Protection Authority's guidelines of 10 June 2021 (res. 231) and art. 122 of D.Lgs. 196/2003 as amended.

2) Types of cookies we use

a) Strictly necessary cookies

Required for the site to work: navigation, authentication, cart/checkout, storing consent preferences, security (anti-fraud, rate-limiting). Legal basis: art. 122 D.Lgs. 196/2003 and art. 6.1.f GDPR (legitimate interest). No prior consent required.

b) Analytics cookies

Aggregated information about site usage (pages viewed, time on site, traffic sources) to improve content and performance. Third-party non-anonymised analytics are installed only after explicit user consent via the banner.

c) Profiling and marketing cookies

Track browsing to build profiles and serve personalised ads, also across other sites (remarketing). Installed only after explicit user consent via the banner. Consent can be withdrawn at any time.

d) Third-party cookies

Some site features (e.g. Google Maps, YouTube videos, Instagram embeds, the Stripe payment processor, WhatsApp chat) are provided by third parties that may set their own cookies. For their privacy notices refer to the providers' sites. Installation occurs subject to consent where required.

Providers currently used: Google (Maps, Fonts), Stripe Payments Europe Ltd, Meta Platforms (WhatsApp/Instagram), AWS CloudFront.

3) Retention

Session cookies are deleted when the browser closes. Persistent cookies have variable lifetimes by purpose: technical consent cookies store the choice for 6 months; analytics and profiling cookies typically last 1 to 13 months depending on the provider. Users can delete cookies at any time via browser settings.

4) How to manage preferences

On first access the cookie banner shows three options at equal prominence: Accept all, Reject all, Customise. Closing the banner without an explicit choice is treated as a rejection: only strictly necessary cookies will be set. Preferences can be changed or withdrawn at any time by reopening the banner from site settings or by clearing browser cookies.

Cookies can also be disabled directly from browser settings. Instructions are available on the websites of the main browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge.

5) Your rights

In relation to data processed via cookies, the user may exercise the rights under arts. 15-22 GDPR (access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, portability). See the full privacy policy for details. Requests can be sent to info@epicsicily.it. A complaint can always be lodged with the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali.
