This experience is run with a partner from Epic Sicily’s hand-picked local network.
An experience in Ileana's own home — a professional cook and Slow Food member — in her kitchen in Mondello, a few steps from the sea. Not a cooking school: a real Sicilian home, where you cook together and then sit down to eat.
The class opens with the historical story of Martorana fruit, a tradition rooted in the monasteries of Palermo.
You'll prepare the marzipan and create the fruit using plaster moulds. During the pause needed to let the fruit dry, you'll taste the typical food of the Day of the Dead: moffoletta, bread filled with extra virgin olive oil, anchovies, pepper and grated caciocavallo cheese, paired with a Sicilian wine.
The experience continues with colouring the fruit, which once dry is arranged in a pretty box to take away. Inside you'll find a souvenir postcard, and the recipe is given to you in digital format.
Available all year round, subject to ingredient availability.
