Sicilian Sunday Lunch: Market and Kitchen

An experience in Ileana's own home — a professional cook and Slow Food member — in her kitchen in Mondello, a few steps from the sea. Not a cooking school: a real Sicilian home, where you cook together and then sit down to eat.

This experience takes you into the Sicilian home cooking of the past — the food once made on Sundays and holidays.

On Thursdays, market day at Partanna Mondello, the experience can turn into a real discovery: among the colours, scents and voices of the market you shop together for the fresh produce you need, immersing yourself in the authentic life of the neighbourhood.

Depending on the season you'll cook a full lunch: a first course, a second course with a side, and dessert. The starters range across typical cured meats and cheeses, egg pancakes, caponata, olives and sun-dried tomatoes — all strictly in season, served with a good Sicilian wine and an excellent liqueur with dessert.

Possible dishes include pasta with sardines, pasta alla Norma, Trapani-style pesto, sautéed broccoli, fresh stuffed pasta, Trinacria-style rolls, seafood pasta, meat rolls, beef roulade in tomato sauce, Messina-style swordfish, sarde a beccafico, stuffed aubergines, artichokes cu tuppu, caponata and frittedda.

The price ranges from €110 to €150 per person depending on the menu chosen. Available all year round.
