An experience in Ileana's own home — a professional cook and Slow Food member — in her kitchen in Mondello, a few steps from the sea. Not a cooking school: a real Sicilian home, where you cook together and then sit down to eat.
March 19th in Italy is St Joseph's day. Its traditional lunch is an ancient Palermo custom: the night before, old wood was piled up in the squares and burned — a rite of pagan origin, thanking for having survived the harsh winter and hoping for a good spring harvest. St Joseph is the protector of the poor as well as of carpenters, and for this reason the tables were set for those with the least.
The menu you'll prepare
- First course: pasta with sardines
- Second course: frittedda of broad beans, artichokes and peas, or your choice of capped artichokes, sarde a beccafico, sardine meatballs or fried sardines with onion
- Dessert: sfince di San Giuseppe (not prepared live)
The lunch is served with Sicilian wine. The experience is subject to the availability of fresh fish and vegetables.
